Kalinga solon urges producers to maintain product quality
Tabuk, Kalinga (12 June) -- Congressman Manuel S. Agyao of the Lone District of Kalinga encouraged the local coffee and unoy rice producers here to maintain the good quality of their organically produced crops in order to "ensure long-term market."
In his message during the recent ceremonial signing of partnership agreement between the Office of the Congressman, Provincial Government of Kalinga with its Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Philippine Development Assistance program (PDAP) Inc., the solon underscored the need to be consistent with product quality "so as not to discourage" customers especially those patronizing the organic products of the province.
The congressman also stressed the need to maintain the organic process of production saying that this is not only advantageous in establishing the marketability of the province's local products like the unoy rice and coffee but is also beneficial in helping mitigate climate change since it will not require the use of farm inputs with harmful chemicals.
Agyao also called on the LGUs as stakeholders to provide the needed support and look into the implementation of the partnership agreement stressing on vital role of the LGUs and concerned government agencies in the control and production process.
He expressed hope that with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for the partnership for developing and strengthening of the Kalinga Agricultural Commodities: Organic Unoy Rice and Coffee, the province would be able to acquire the needed technical assistance to enhance the production and market of said local commodities and encourage consumers in the local and international level to patronize Filipino products.
