Domogan appeals to public not to raise uproar against Con-Ass
by Lito Dar
Baguio City (12 June) -- Congressman Mauricio Domogan is appealing to the public not to make an uproar against the House of Representatives Con-Ass initiative.
saying it is premature, as there is no reason yet for people to react or to organize a rally.
Domogan explained that what they have approved is only a proposal to amend the constitution through a Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass), and whatever amendment proposal should be made, it is still the Filipino people who would decide through a plebiscite.
He emphasized that the present Congress has no more time to amend the constitution and that the Con-Ass approved by the House of Representative is just a preparation, so that hopefully, the next Congress could actually start the much needed amendment to the present constitution. He stressed that only through a genuine amendment to the constitution can we bring development to the countryside.
He also assured that the term extension of any elected officials was never a part of the amendment they have agreed upon.
Domogan admits that he is an advocate of charter change, though only through a genuine and pro-people proposal. He believes that the House move would trigger legal question, especially on the issue of whether the Senate or the House of Representatives, would vote separately on the issue or not.
Domogan explained that a senator's view is as good as the view of any Juan Dela Cruz. According to him, it is better if the Senate will bring the issue to the Supreme Court so that it will be resolved once and for all. (PIA) [top]
