Network of Craniomaxillofacial surgeons in Asia-Pacific hold seminar in Baguio

Baguio City (12 June) -- AO Asia Pacific (AOAP) held a Craniomaxillofacial (CMX) Advanced Seminar at the Baguio Country Club last Saturday, June 6, and participated in by 48 CMX surgeons.
AO CMX is composed of 12 countries in the Asia Pacific region. It has been the mission of AOAP to foster and expand its network of healthcare professionals interested in education, research, development and clinical investigation so as to achieve more effective patient care in Southeast Asia.
According to Dr. Frederick Untalan of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, an AOAP member and the local organizer of the event, most of their participants were Neuro surgeons, EENT and Ophtalmologists, specializing on bone, skeleton and muscular tissue of the head and neck.
Untalan explained that AOAP is mostly involved in the education, research and development and in seminars like this, they usually do sharing of clinical practices.
AOAP also maintains partnership with Synthez, an international medical equipment/materials manufacturing company, with Surgicare as its local counterpart. Any results of research and development by AOAP, Synthez would manufacture it and in return, parts of the revenue would go back to AOAP to fund their other researches.
This year's seminar chairman is Dr Enrico Donato, of the Manila Central University. Regional lecturers/presentor included Dr Gopal Krishnan from SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospitals, Dharwad India and Dr. Yi Zhang of Beijing Medical University, PRC.
Local lecturers (faculty) included Dr. Mario Esquillo of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Dr Edgar Mendoza of Mendoza EENT Clinic, Dr Derek Peteza of East Avenue Medical Center, Dr Francis Roasa of the University of Santo Tomas, Dr Romeo Shanchez of Jecsons Medical Center, Dr Raymond Tapang of UERM Medical Center and Dr. Untalan of the BGHMC.
Topics included anatomy and classification of cleft lip and palate plus treatment options and proper reconstructions; Alveolar cleft and bone grafting; secondary repair, prosthesis for cleft; Dentofacial aesthetics; Complex Orbital Trauma Defect repair; secondary repair of maxillofacial trauma; Management of gunshot injuries; Management for post traumatic ankylosis; Treatment options for Condylar fractures and Dental Rehabilitation and implantation for post traumatic injuries.
Showing their concern for the environment, the doctors also held a tree planting activity at the Wright Park grounds fronting the Mansion House. (PIA) [top]
