Region I Kalayaan 2009 council meets local press

San Fernando City, La Union (12 June) -- Members of the Kalayaan 2009 Regional Organizing Committee (ROC) in Region I met the local press during the press conference held at the Department of Health Conference Room recently, this city.

Headed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, being the lead agency for this year's celebration of the 111th Philippine Independence Day celebration, stressed in his brief backgrounder that the event is a convergence of efforts of the different participating agencies.

"Around 7,377 employment contracts under Executive Order 782 mandating all government agencies to allocate 1.5% of the their total MOOE budget; 2,355 Pangulong Gloria Scholarship Program; 1,546 livelihood assistance checks amounting to P9,878,150.00 and 556 scholarship certificates for the Student Financial Assistance Program will be awarded by the designated CLEEP Stewards in the region, Secretary Francisco Duque III of the Department of Health (DOH) and Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. of the Presidential Management Staff," Jalbuena said.

Purposely, the activity aimed at advocating the different commitments and vital roles of the different participating agencies, including the Provincial Government of La Union and the City Government of San Fernando.

Members of the Kalayaan 2009 Regional Organizing Committee that acted as panelists during the press conference addressing the various querries/questions of the media include Presidential Assistant for Northern Luzon Dr. Enrie A. Mendoza, representing the National Anti-Poverty Commission Regional Kalahi Convergence Group, Director Eduardo Janairo of DOH, Director Mariano Alquiza of Department of Public Works and Highways, Director Florante Leal of Department of Trade and Industry, Dir. Abraham N. Libadia of Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Ms. Corazon Salindong representing Dir. Manuel Biazon of Department of Interior and Local Government, C/Supt. Partible representing P/Supt Ramon Gatan of the Philippine National Police and PITO Adamor Dagang of the Provincial Government of La Union.

"Preparations for the June 12-14 celebration were all set, and we are happy serving our constituents in the region," Janairo disclosed.

The press conference was participated in by about twenty-two media practitioners from the tri-media to include tv networks of ABS-CBN, GMA-10 and UNTV; DZNL-Aksyon Radyo, DZSO-Bombo Radyo, DZAG-Radyo ng Bayan, DWLU-FM and DWST-Love Radio for broadcast media; Norluzonian Courier, Weekly Banat, Star Northern Luzon, Amianan Tribune, Philippine Star Correspondent and Manila Bulletin correspondent for the print.
