Under one flag, our nation will flourish, says Gonzalez

Iloilo City (12 June) -- The observance of the Philippine Independence is filled with glory and history.

This was disclosed by Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez during the 111th Philippine Independence Day Anniversary held in Iloilo City , urging everyone "to see to it that this nation under one flag will flourish and remain as the shining star of freedom and democracy and true Filipino nationhood”.

"We should be proud to be Filipinos and should also remember by heart the sacrifices of our forebears who died to fight for the freedom of our nation,” he said as he emphasized that the country has moved forward, but notwithstanding our progress, we are still facing a lot of crisis situations because of international implications but many of the crisis we face were all our own making".

Gonzales emphasized that the government is not sleeping on its job, and it is doing everything within the limits of its resources to uplift the life of the Filipinos.

The observance of the 111th Philippine Independence Anniversary which focuses on jobs creation and employment opportunities, said Gonzalez, also spotlights significant things which the government has undertaken in order to make the people feel they are part of the nation’s progress.

The program held at the Amigo Plaza Mall in Iloilo City highlighted the awarding of 845 short-term employment contracts employment; 81 Livelihood Funding Checks amounting to P14,658,220.00 benefiting 2,896 workers and 3,649 training scholarship vouchers.

The over-all Kalayaan 2009 worker-beneficiaries in Region 6 reached 7,390.

Meanwhile, President Arroyo in her 111th Philippine Independence Day message assured that the government remains focused on uplifting the lives of the poor and mitigating the impact of the global financial crisis, especially on the most vulnerable sectors of society. (PIA6/T. Villavert) [top]
