DTI "Diskwento" program on
Iloilo City (12 June) -- Ilonggos will have the chance to buy some of their needed products at lower prices until Sunday, June 14, through the "Diskwento program" of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as part of the celebration of Independence Day.
DTI Iloilo Provincial Director Wilhelm Malones said under the program participating establishments will be giving discount starting at five percent lower than the prevailing market prices on various products.
He said some 24 establishments and about 18 manufacturers or suppliers have signified their participation to the program. These outlets include all branches of Iloilo Supermart, Ledi Supermart, Gaisano City, Gaisano Guanco, Iloilo Society Commercial, Washington Supermart, Market Place, amongst others.
Among the products to be sold at discounted prices are toothpaste, laundry soap, milk, coffee, noodles and others.
Malones said manufacturers have assured to ensure the availability of their products during the three-day in-store promotion.
"We are supported by the Philippine Retailers Association and Integrated Supplier Association of Panay-Iloilo Chapter in this program which will provide consumers access to low-priced basic commodities in the light of the prevailing economic slowdown which is also in consonance with the focus of the Independence Day celebration as directed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo," said Malones.
The President had earlier directed her Cabinet Secretaries to implement the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program as part of the government's economic resiliency plan in addressing the global financial crisis.
According to Malones "Diskwento" program will also provide opportunity to the business sector to promote their products. (PIA) [top]
