PIA Press Release

Remonde commits to serve until end of PGMA's term in 2010

by Roberto M. Cabardo

Cebu City (12 June) -- If Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmena is eager to have a top government official join the congressional slate next year to represent Cebu City South District, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde may not be able to return the same intent as he is bent not to enter into politics just yet.

He said that while he is flattered and very much grateful that the mayor considered him as a potential candidate for the south congressional district of Cebu City

In responding to a query, Remonde said that he is committed to serve Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo until the end of her term in 2010.

"Maybe after 2010, I might consider running for public office. Though I have always chosen to be a public servant. That is why I am in the media," Remonde said.

A few days back, the name of the press secretary was floated by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena as a possible candidate for the south congressional district in the coming elections.

The press secretary who hails from the town of Argao in Cebu also has a residence in Banawa, Cebu City. Prior to his appointment in various government positions, he was one of the key officials of Cebu and national media organizations.

By far, Remonde is the only member of the cabinet that has earned the confirmation of both administration and opposition members of the Commission on Appointments in a much shorter time based on his "impeccable qualification and unquestionable integrity," as a public servant. (PIA Cebu) [top]
