Lanao Sur dad underscores need for social responsibility

by Apipa P. Bagumbaran

Marawi City (12 June) -- The problems we face today such as armed conflicts, destruction of nature, poverty and hunger are human problems which can be resolved through human effort.

Thus the message of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Adiong, Jr. during the 111th Independence Day commemoration.

Governor Adiong stressed the need to cultivate a national responsibility for one another.

"We raise the flag today to show patriotism and ethnical unity," he said.

The Governor also cited the bravery of Maranao heroes stressing that the Philippine history has been sanctified by the sacrifices of Muslim martyrs.

"We are here today to commemorate the saga of Maranao heroes who fought bravely in the so-called Moro wars along with their Tausug and Magauindanaon brothers during the invasion," he further said.

Governor Adiong is optimistic that the values of Muslim forebears and the other Filipino heroes that have sustained the sovereignty of the nation to stay.

"I pray that together we succeed in building a peaceful region and a better Philippines through human understanding and solidarity," he added. (PIA-Marawi City) [top]
