385 Ilonggo farmers receive land titles

Iloilo (15 June) -- The dream of 385 farmer-beneficiaries in this province to own the land they till finally came true.

Department of Agrarian Reform VI (DAR VI)distributed the Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs)under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program of the government to the farmer beneficiaries during the awarding ceremonies held in line with the celebration of the country's 111th Independence Day in Iloilo City last June 12.

The land titles distributed cover a total land area of 362 hectares.

During the awarding ceremony, Francisco Alba Ladiho, representing the farmer beneficiaries from the 1st district of the province received the 14 CLOAs intended for them.

The only CLOA for the 2nd district of the province with an area of 4 hectares was received by Josue Sindol Jr.

On behalf of the other farmer-beneficiaries from the 3rd district, Mateo Baron Jr, received the 24 CLOAs with an area of 48 hectares while Heda Abaicio received the 97 CLOAs with an area of 81 hectares for beneficiaries in the 4th district.

It was Evelyn Gurrea who received the 133 CLOAs for the farmer beneficiaries in the 5th district of the province. The said CLOAs cover an area of 221 hectares.

In its press report, DAR 6 said land distribution as an agrarian reform component serves to correct the iniquitous tenurial arrangements and will pave the way for the economic upliftment of the Filipino farmer.

It further said that in the celebration of the Independence Day, agrarian reform program runs a parallel - an empowered rural population leading to the industrialization and stronger labor demand which is attuned to the government's thrust of creating employment opportunities in this time of the prevailing global economic slowdown.
