Cavite celebrates 111th anniversary of Philippine Independence
Kawit, Cavite (15 June) -- Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. led other national and local officials in the flag-raising ceremony, when Kalayaan Festival 2009 culminates with a dramatic re-enactment of the revolution and the proclamation of independence along with the 111th year celebration of freedom at the historic Aguinaldo Shrine.
A grand parade of floats and showcase of street dancers representing the province's new advocacy, "Cavite, Be Part of the Revolution", were also among the main attractions in the program.
The presentation includes a live battle scene under the direction of Francis "Jun" Posadas with the special portrayal of Roy Alvarez as Ambrosio Rianzares, John Regala as the Spanish commander, and Emilio Aguinaldo V who is an Imus Councilor and descendant of Gen. Aguinaldo, became a poignant reminder of the adversities of the Filipino during the period of revolution and how they struggled before Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo was able to declare independence from Spanish oppressors in June 12, 1898.
The parade of floats and street dancing on the other hand depicted the major personalities that the new Cavite brand encompasses - historical, progressive, globally-competitive, service-oriented and visionary.
As part of Governor Ayong Maliksi's goal of providing alternative solutions to address the impact of global financial crisis in Cavite, this year's Kalayaan Festival also included programs that benefited Caviteņos. The provincial government tapped the support of SMART PINOY which sponsored Galing Pinoy Job and Fun Fair and came up with a mega jobs fair for government, local and overseas employment in coordination with the provincial PESO and national government agencies like DOLE, OWWA, DPWH, DOTC, DENR, TESDA and others.
DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza, DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr. and DOLE Region IV-A Director Atty. Ricardo Martinez, Sr. graced the program as guest speakers and took part in the awarding of livelihood grants and employment contracts to Caviteņo beneficiaries. The program also included livelihood caravan and Cavite Products Trade Fair supervised by the Provincial Cooperative, Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Office.
A cooking competition dubbed as "Lutong Kabitenyo, Tatak Rebolusyonaryo" was also held during the festival culmination where schools offering courses in culinary arts competed to create a cuisine that is distinctively Caviteņo made from locally-found products.
According to Governor Maliksi, Cavite is proud of its rich historical legacy and that the province will continue to preserve, cultivate and promote it for the future generations to learn, appreciate and gain inspiration from the major role Cavite played in Philippine history being the cradle of revolution and birthplace of independence.
