Negros Occidental urges people to uphold, defend freedom and democracy
Negros Occ. (16 June) -- Governor Isidro Zayco rallied Negrenses to uphold and defend the freedom and democracy during the 111th Independence Day at the Capitol Lagoon.
"As we display our Philippine flag, we give tribute to our heroes and heroines who have made a lot of sacrifices to attain the democratic way of life we enjoy today," he said.
He urged the people to imbibe positive Filipino values reflected in the celebration's theme: "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan," and to keep the nation strong and free.
Zayco said the nation is today faced with disturbing scenarios like world financial meltdown, swine flu virus, and other divisive issues.
"However, as we reflect on the heroism of our ancestors, we must be courageous, resilient and hopeful that we can survive and surpass all challenges that confront our nation."
He further called on Negrenses to give their share in improving the economy to uplift the lives of the poor because true freedom is when we have done our part in improving the lives of our fellowmen.
"Let us continue to protect our freedom and strengthen our sense of duty to contribute in the realization of our common task of enhancing the quality of life for our people. For it is in improving the lives of our fellowmen that real freedom can be achieved." (PIA-LOL) [top]
