Jobs fair, awarding of livelihood checks highlight 111th Independence Day in Region 02
Tuguegarao City (16 June) -- The Department of Labor and Employment Region 2 has opened 14,115 overseas jobs and 400 local job opportunities during the two-day Jobs Fair on June 12 -14 during the 111th Independence Day Celebration.
Director Grace Y. Ursua explained that through Administrative Order No. 259, signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the DOLE was designated to lead this year's celebration of Kalayaan 2009 with the theme "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan."
Ursua stressed that this year's celebration focused on service oriented activities like the Jobs Fair which helped thousands of job seekers from the region.
Ursua added that after how many years of ‘no hiring policy' of government agencies, it's only now that they opened their doors for applicants.
"It is for emergency employment contract for six months only but this will be a big help for those who will be hired," Ursua said.
Government agencies such as the DepEd, DTI, DPWH, DSWD and DOLE have awarded employment contracts under EO 782 to 351 worker-beneficiaries
A total of 440 private local and 3,616 private overseas jobs were also filled up during the jobs fair.
The Jobs Fair was participated in by eight (8) government agencies, 14 private local and 17 private overseas employers.
Livelihood funding checks with a total amount of P81.831 million pesos were awarded to 3,002 beneficiaries under the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).
The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) awarded P 6 million total scholarship fund to 719 scholars under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship.
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has launched an impounding dam project and signed Memorandum of Agreement with irrigators' association from Isabela and Quirino for the repair/rehabilitation of irrigation projects.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources awarded a total of 154 Letters of Agreement to some People's Organization under the CBFM-CARP, and also distributed 1,500 malunggay cuttings.
The Department of Agriculture awarded Farm to Market Roads to eight (8) Local Government Units amounting to P72 million.
The Department of Agrarian Reform awarded two Certificates of Eligibility to partner cooperatives under the CAP-PBD program.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources awarded fishing gears, post harvest facilities and fingerlings to farmers. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
