Chinese embassy commends Kabacan LGU

Koronadal City (16 June) -- For having rescued a Chinese woman from four-day captivity of her abductors, the Chinese Embassy based in Manila officially commended Kabacan Mayor George Tan.

Ma Fen Wu was abducted by unidentified armed men believed to be affiliated with the Pentagon kidnap-for-ransom group in Kacaban last May 31.

Kidapawan town first lady Mrs. Luzviminda Tan said, they have receive an official communication signed by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianhao expressing his heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Tan and those responsible for their efforts which led to the safe release of Wu.

This letter of appreciation, Mrs. Tan said, is a manifestation of the commitment of the Kacaban local government unit of giving utmost priority to the safety and protection the people in the area.

"Talagang binibigyan ng local leaders ng priority ang ating mga kababayan, ang kanilang kaligtasan at kapakanan, lahat walang pinipili basta para sa ikakabubuti ng lahat," she said.

The appreciation expressed by the Chinese Embassy does not only bring honor to the local leaders but all of the peace loving residents, she said.

She admits the kidnapping incident has somehow affected the town's economic activity but optimistic to be able to recover through collaborative efforts and support of the community particularly local leaders.

"Kapansin-pansin ang konting tao na bumibili sa mga tindahan noong nangyari iyon, pero pagkaraan ng release ng biktima ay may tinatayo ng mga tindahan dito," Tan said.

The Kabacan first lasy claims that despite the kidnapping incident, there are businessmen who have signified their interest to invest in the area.

She called on all her constituents, particularly the "kidnapables" to be extra alert and vigilant as the perpetrators are likely just around the corner waiting for the right time. (pbc/PIA 12) [top]
