Tagalog News: 100 OFWs uuwi sa bansa mula Middle East

Manila (16 June) -- Mahigit isang daan (100) Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) na na-stranded sa bansang Middle East ang tinutulungan ng state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) at San Miguel Corporation na nakauwi ngayong araw bilang bahagi ng corporate social responsibility efforts ng mga nasabing kompanya.

Ayon kay DBP president & chief executive officer Reynaldo G. David karamihan umano sa mga OFWs ay mga domestic helpers na naglayas pagkatapos abusuhin ng kanilang mga amo sa United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan at Oman. Ang mga OFWs na hindi kaya ang pambayad sa plane fare ay hinikayat na manatili na muna sa Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) office sa Dubai para sa kanilang kapakanan.

Samantala, ini-ulat ni David na patuloy pa rin umano ang pagtaas ng kita ng DBP ngayong taon na mayroong income na P1.24 billion. Nanatili pa ring matatag ang financial position ng DBP ngayong taon sa kabila ng nararanasang global economic slowdown. (KAlbay/PIA 12) [top]
