Lanao Sur lines up activities for golden anniversary fete

Marawi City (16 June) -- It is all systems go as the provincial government of Lanao del Sur will celebrate another milestone the 50th founding anniversary of Lanao del Sur.

This year's theme "50 Years of Service to the People of Lanao del Sur" will feature the cooperation of different sectors in Lanao del Sur and will be spearheaded by the provincial government in providing genuine services to its constituents.

The celebration will be showcased through a series of activities that is expected to revive the unique and well-preserved Maranao culture.

The golden celebration will kick-off on June 26 and ends on July 4.

Officials and employees from the provincial government and national line agencies, business and private sectors, religious, civic, traditional leaders, academe, barangay and youth groups are expected to participate.

The Department of Education will spearhead the DepEd Day on June 27 which will be highlighted by a cultural parade and program.

Marked as the Barangay and Councilors League Day, a Basketball Friendship Game is set on June 28.

On June 29, non-government and people's organizations will conduct the Lanao Sur People's Congress.

The youth sector will participate through the Karate, Badminton, Extemporaneous Speech and Poster Making contests scheduled on June 30, the Youth Day.

Health Day is set on July 1 which will be highlighted by a medical and optical mission.

The Provincial Advisory Council, Council of Elders and Sultanate Day is on July 2.

Another highlight of the golden celebration is the Ulama League Day on July 2 to 3 where the Ulama League of the Philippines will conduct a summit on moral revival.

A tree planting activity will highlight the Environment Day on July 4 while the Governor's Night and awarding of prizes will wrap up the golden celebration.

Meanwhile, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal 'Bombit' Adiong Jr. is inviting everyone to come and witness the celebration.

"I am inviting our kababayans from the different parts of the country to come and discover the beauty of Lanao del Sur and the uniqueness of the Maranao culture as we celebrate our golden anniversary," he said. (PIA-Marawi City) [top]
