OPPAP distributes P2.1-M financial assistance to former Communist rebels in Laguna

Sta. Cruz, Laguna (17 June) -- The Office of the Presidential Affairs on Peace Process (OPPAP) distributed financial assistance amounting to P2.12M to former NPA rebels, supporters, and symphatizers in a ceremony held at the Laguna cultural center in the provincial capitol on June 17, 2009.
Through President Gloria M. Arroyo's Social Integration Program, OPPAP Undersecretary Pedro Cesar C. Ramboanga Jr. assisted by Laguna Gov. Ningning S. Lazaro awarded financial assistance worth P20,000 each to 106 former NPA rebels, supporters, and symphatizers, the first batch of the 230 rebel returnees availed of the program in Laguna.
Aside from the financial assistance, the provincial government of Laguna also distributed Philhealth cards and grocery packs to the rebel returnees.
PGMA's Social Integration Program implemented by OPPAP aims to integrate former rebels to the mainstream society to live normal lives with their families. It provides financial assistance to rebel returnees and sponsors free livelihood seminars. The livelihood programs are monitored with the assistance of the LGUs and the DSWD. (PIA) [top]
