DILG Sec. Puno to administer oath of office to RPOC members

Tacloban City (17 June) -- Per Executive Order No. 773 dated January 5, 2009, the Peace and Order Councils at all levels will be reorganized with a new membership.

Relative to this, members of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in region 8 will meet on June 18, for the reorganization at the National Economic and Development Authority with National Peace and Order Council Chairman, Department of Interior & Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno as guest of honor.

Sec. Puno will administer the oath of office of the RPOC members, after which he will deliver a message.

During the meeting, Philippine National Police Regional Director CSupt. Mario R. San Diego, who is the RPOC Vice-Chairman will brief the members on the crime situation in Eastern Visayas.

On the other hand, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Director Julius R. Navales will report on the present drug situation in Eastern Visayas, while 8thID Commanding General Arthur I. Tabaquero will discuss the insurgency situation in the area.

Before the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the RPOC Ben P. Evardone, Eastern Provincial Samar Governor will have a Chairman's Time.

Meanwhile, Exec. Order No. 733 mandates that the Peace and Order Councils on the national, regional, provincial, city and municipal levels of government will all be reorganized with the Secretary of Interior and Local Government as Chairman at the National level, with different government institutions as members, and three representatives from the private sector who shall be appointed by the President of the Philippines.

The Exec. Order mandates that the regional, provincial, city and municipal peace and order councils will provide a forum for dialogue and deliberation of major issues and problems affecting peace and order to include insurgency, and likewise, recommend measures which will improve or enhance peace and order and public safety in their respective areas of responsibility.
