Gov't, coop leaders urged to support coop movement

Dumaguete City (18 June) -- Both government and cooperative leaders need to cooperate and unite in supporting cooperative movement to beat global financial crisis as Negros Oriental garnered the award as the next venue for the 2nd Philippine Cooperative Teamshop.
This was stressed by Committee on Cooperative Chair, Provincial Board Member Rodolfo Martinez during the launching and presentation of Notice of Award by the National Cooperative Development Council (NCDC) chair Arthur Aller on Thursday (June 18) at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, this city.
For his part, Dumaguete City Councilor Noel de Jesus said recognizing coop as vehicle not only as social upliftment but contributes the upliftment of the country's economic condition.
The award is formally accepted by Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) chair Dr. Profetiza Lim before some five hundred coop members from different local government units in the province and regional coops in the country.
The hosting of the cooperative teamshop expects to gather here not less than 4,000 cooperative leaders, practitioners and advocates nationwide in October 2010.
Aller of NCDC said this will highlight the major role that cooperatives play in achieving economic development by improving cooperatives in global competitiveness under a regulated environment.
The activity will advocate its members how to ensure safe and sound operation of the cooperatives and the protection of the members" interest and "together, everyone will cooperate and achieve more," Aller said.
In the same activity, Provincial officials led by Governor Emilio Macias II expressed gratitude and welcome the opportunity to host the event to establish linkages between and among cooperatives all over the country for mutually enriching entrepreneurial initiatives. (PIA/JCT) [top]
