Tigbauan, Iloilo (19 June) -- The municipality of Tigbauan, Iloilo will commemorate the anniversary of typhoon Frank’s devastation to the people’s lives, properties, infrastructure and agriculture.
A mass and other fitting activity will be held enough to remember how we struggled to return our lives back to normal after the typhoon’s devastations, said Mayor James Excelsior M. Torres in a media interview during the inauguration of a day care center and a school building in Barngay Cansilayan, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
He recalled that the Tigbauan LGU have extended assistance to the affected families, but lamented that the town’s resources is not enough to and right now "we are still expecting more assistance from concerned national government agencies".
Some of the affected families have rebuilt their damaged homes, but there are still those who stay with their nearest relatives’ homes.
The June 25, 2008 report of the Iloilo Provincial Coordinating Council showed 370 totally damaged houses; fifteen (15) deaths and 22 barangays were affected.
Mayor Torres said around 70 families are needing shelters, and pointed out the urgency to repair the hanging bridge which connects Barangay Durong-an to Poblacion because right now the public especially children who attend school, are using boats just to cross the river.
While, there are still other sectors in the municipality needing national funding assistance, the Mayor said Tigbauan is 90 percent back to normal. (PIA 6) [top]
