MOA signing expands 4Ps areas in Lanao del Norte

Cagayan de Oro City (19 June) -- THE Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) increases the number of beneficiaries in Lanao del Nort as it caters to Pantar, Pantao-Ragat, Matungao and Sultan Naga Dimaporo.
Mayors Motalib Dimaporo of Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Jaber Azis of Matungao and Neshren Eleanor Lantud of Pantao-Ragat signed the Memorandum of Agreement of the Program on June 17, 2009, at the Macapagal Training Center, Capitol, Tubod, Lanao del Norte to formally welcome 4Ps in their areas.
The program is a poverty reduction strategy which provides cash grants to extreme poor households to allow the members of the families to meet certain human development goals set by the government.
Currently, there are 1,891 potential beneficiaries in Pantar where the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already registered 1,756 beneficiaries, 1,327 potential beneficiaries from Matungao, 5,658 from Sultan Naga Dimaporo and 1,946 from Pantao-Ragat.
For the expansion areas, there are 10, 822 potential beneficiaries and the registration of such is still ongoing.
Among the attendees of the MOA signing include Atty. Araceli F. Solamillo, Regional Director of DSWD-X, Gov. Khalid Dimaporo of the 2nd District of Lanao del Norte, Purita H. Santa, Chief- Technical Assistance Division of DSWD-X, the Municipal Mayors from the expansion areas and the staff from the Social Services of the province.
During the activity, Gov. Dimaporo expressed that he is thankful that 4Ps was implemented in their area and has brought up to the Regional Director of DSWD-X that the Program also coincides with the development thrust of his administration as he is prioritizing the poor of Lanao del Norte.
The Governor further mentioned that he would like to work closely with the implementers of 4Ps in the region since four of five of the health-related conditions of 4Ps are also his flagship program through the PhilHealth project in the province.
Taking note of the two projects, Gov. Dimaporo said, "In implementation, I'd like to align the work of the province with the program of our president, we work together, so we can keep the development targets of our president."
To start off, the Governor requested DSWD to give them a master list of the beneficiaries in the area so that they can also enroll the people in the PhilHealth program.
In response, Atty. Solamillo assured the governor that the Department will give all the documents that the province needs to also implement the PhilHealth program.
The Regional Director also mentioned that the Signing of Agreement will not only serve as a basis of implementing the Program because it "also manifests a deeper meaning of our partnership and commitment in making the lives of the people of Lanao del Norte better."
To highlight the impact of 4Ps, Atty. Solamillo said, "Today, more and more people in Lanao del Norte are slowly but surely climbing up the economic, health and education ladders because of the implementation of 4Ps."
The Program has already accommodated the municipalities of Kapatagan, Lala, Salvador, Tagoloan, Magsaysay, Munai, Poona Piagapo, Tangkal, Nunungan and Sapad.
As of May 2009, there are 25,517 number of households registered in the Program and a total of P46,198,000 was already distributed. (DSWD-10) [top]
