Cagayanos to celebrate "Fiesta ta Bannag" on Aggao Nac Cagayan
Tuguegarao City (18 June) -- The Provincial Government of Cagayan has bared the series of activities for the celebration of "426th Aggao Nac Cagayan", dubbed as "Fiesta ta Bannag", from June 23 to 29, 2009.
Gov. Alvaro T. Antonio said 'Fiesta ta Bannag', which means 'by the riverbank', was chosen as the theme of this year's celebration to recognize the fact that Cagayan's rich history and colorful character began from the banks of Rio Grande de Cagayan, the mightiest and longest river in the country.
Antonio said the highlight of this year's celebration is the recognition to the Our Lady of Piat's continuous blessings, guidance and protection to Cagayanos.
Social Welfare Officer Edna Junio, Steering Committee Chair, said a simultaneous ringing of bells provincewide signals the beginning of the 'Fiesta ta Bannag'.
A fluvial parade of the image of Our Lady of Piat has started from Aparri down to Buntun, Tuguegarao City on the 23rd to be followed by a program at the Cagayan Sports Complex and the opening of the agri-trade fair.
On June 24, the activities are the healthy lifestyle, blood olympics, rice congress, and battle of the bands. On the 25th, blood Olympics continuation, Gaggayam nac Cagayan, night of elegance and a variety show with some celebrities.
To help mitigate climate change, a tree planting dubbed as 'mammula ta gatag' will be done provincewide, followed by launching of the Cagayan Association of Colleges and Universities Athletic Sports Competition, hog production seminar, Marian Voyage of Peace, press conference of Bb. Cagayan and pre-pageant at Paseo Reale Mall.
One of the highlights of the weeklong celebration is the street dance competition on the 27th, to be followed by a pet show, billiard tournament, chess tournament, and on the 28th it will be the day for the cycling competition, XRM motor challenge, and the pageant for Bb. Cagayan 2009.
On the 29th winners of the Bb. Cagayan search and street dance competition will join the parade around the city.
Junio also revealed that the Provincial Government of Cagayan is set to declare the 29th as special non-working holiday to give chance to all Cagayanos to celebrate the Aggao Nac Cagayan and join the "Fiesta ta Bannag." (Ver/PIA-Cagayan) [top]
