TESDA Cagayan's PGS program produces job ready, competent workers
Tuguegarao City (19 June) -- The Pangulong Gloria Scholarships program that is being implemented by the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) here has already produced a total of 744 Job Ready workers, as shown in the reported passing rate of 92% in the competency assessment conducted by accredited assessors.
Director Belinda A. Labutong said the first batch of trainees are along the different qualifications like Food and Beverage Services NC II, Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, Automotive Servicing NC II, Driving NC II, Consumer Electronics Servicing NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Commercial Cooking NC II, Bookkeeping NC II and Building Wiring Installation NC II.
Director Labutong added that these programs were implemented from February to May 2009, with partner private and public TEKBOK providers (TBPs) in Cagayan province through the Group Training Scheme (GTS) where a group of 15 to 25 scholalrs per qualification were trained at one time.
"The PGS provides Training Support Fund (TSF) of P60 per day for each trainee for the whole duration of the training and the TEKBOK providers were given corresponding training cost at the end of each training program," Labutong said.
The lady director stressed that PGS program is a part of the Economic Resiliency Program of the Arroyo administration which is aimed at producing a pool of JOB READY and globally competent workforce.
The TESDA provincial chief also reported that a total of 817 trainees of the on-going programs per qualification are enrolled in the following institutions: St. Paul University Philippines, University of St. Louis Tuguegarao, Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao, Maila Rosario College, Cagayan Metropolitan Institute of Technology, City Technological Institute, FL Vargas College Tuguegarao, International School of Asia and the Pacific, Lyceum of Aparri and Cagayan State University.
