Tabuk all set for 2nd City Anniversary on June 24-26
Tabuk, Kalinga (20 June) -- The decision to junk the cityhood of Tabuk does not stop this local government unit from celebrating its 2nd City anniversary and 8th Matagoan festival on June 24 to 26, 2009.
With the theme 'Making Tabuk the new Frontier for the North through Ecotourism', June 24 will be highlighted with the Agro-industrial Day featuring the Longest Linudag Show and the opening of the Matagoan Festival.
After a short program to be graced by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Director. Malcolm Sarmiento Jr. as Guest of Honor along with Kalinga Representative Manuel Agyao, the City Government in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry will formally open the Agro-Industrial Fair where the Local Regional Economic Development will be launched.
In the afternoon will be the Tagitag Exhibition and Matagoan Games featuring the Teakwondo Exhibition, horse racing, karyada race and the Pangasius Harvest Festival.
June 25 will by the Cultural Day that will showcase the Matagoan Run to start at five in the morning, followed by the Gabbok Street Dancing. DOT-CAR Director Purificacion Molintas will be the Guest of Honor. Kalinga Governor Floydelia Diasen was likewise invited to grace the day's events.
The different cultural rites of the people of Tabuk will be showcased in the afternoon to be performed by the different sub-communities.
The Natagoan do Tago cultural productions include the Inum di Bodong by the Pasil sub-cultural community; Banat by the Tobogs; Boda to be performed by the Tinglayan sub-cultural community; and Tuod di boloy by the Gaddang sub-cultural community.
The sub-cultural community of Biga will showcase the Gabbok rites, while the Malbong will perform the Umapo. Tanglag will do the Manguma rites; Opas di Pagoy by the Guilayon; Poppolak by the Colminga; Dawak by the Ballac; Posipos by Naneng and Bagungon by the Bago sub-cultural community.
Following said performances will be the dornat between the Minanga and Gaddang sub-cultural communities.
On June 26, the adventure seekers could either join in the White Water Rafting activity at the Chico River or the trekking adventure to Banga-banga falls.
Through the ratification of Republic Act 9404, Tabuk was converted into a component city on June 24, 2007. (ggd/PIA-Kalinga) [top]
