DA releases P2.1M to Ifugao farmers

Lagawe, Ifugao (20 June) -- The Department of Agriculture released a total amount of P2.1M to fund agricultural programs for the upliftment of the economic conditions of the farmers here.
In a speech delivered during the opening program of the Gotad ad Ifugao, DA-Cordillera Assistant Regional Director Jerry Baliang said the money will fund agricultural programs in the municipalities of Kiangan in the amount of P666,000.00, and P600,000.00 for Lamut, Alfonso Lista and Asipulo.
Baliang, who was the guest of honor in the Agro-Industrial Fair featuring "Amlag di Apit" or bountiful harvest, said that the DA which has been advocating organic farming will continue extending assistance to the farmers who consists about 80% of the total population here.
On the other hand, Governor Teddy Baguilat said that farm products which are produced here through the use of organic farming are being marketed locally and overseas. The tinawon rice or Ifugao native rice is in demand abroad, he said. The governor also bared that some organic products of Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs) and some farmers' organizations here are being sold in the market and being used as gifts.
The DA has funded 13 project proposals of the province at P1M each for a total of P13M.
Meanwhile, Tito Arevalo, the Research Coordinator of the Bureau of Agricultural Research of DA awarded checks to the Community Participatory Action research (CPAR) on organic vegetable Production in Asipulo. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
