DAR-10 celebrates 21st CARP anniversary

Cagayan de Oro City (22 June) -- With the theme, "Enterprising agrarian reform communities: Creating jobs, empowering farmers and ensuring food security," the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in region 10 has lined up simple activities to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) this month.

The celebration will start with a Holy Mass at the San Agustin Cathedral on June 23, 8:00 o'clock in the morning with Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, SJ officiating.

Government line agencies, NGOs, POs, other CARP advocates and the general public are invited to join in this thanksgiving Mass.

After the mass, a motorcade around the city will follow and will proceed to the DAR-10 regional office in Macanhan for the formal opening of the sportsfest among the DAR employees.

Thereafter, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will also mark the opening of the Regional Agraryo Trade Fair that showcases the best products from the agrarian reform communities in Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental. The trade fair will run from June 23-25 at the DAR-10 office compound in Macanhan and is open to the public.

In the afternoon of June 23, a press conference will be held in one of the venues in the city. Heads of other CARP implementing agencies will join the DAR officials in this interaction with the local media. Status on accomplishment as well as other issues and concerns affecting CARP implementation in Region 10 are the major points of discussion during the conference.

During the first part of the presscon, DAR-10 Regional Director Felix B. Aguhob will launch the DAR-10 website to signal the start of the office's online updates and services to the public.

Updates from the field offices will substantially comprise the content making the website a major source of news materials and feature stories for local media publication.

One of the highlights of this year's celebration is the awarding of plaques of recognition to the most notable CARP beneficiaries in Region 10 for Calendar Year 2008 as follows: Severiano Q. Petalcorin of Valencia, Bukidnon as the Most Outstanding Agrarian Reform Beneficiary; Villa MTB of Oroquieta City as the Most Progressive Agrarian Reform Community; and FARM Coop of Sumilao, Bukidnon as the Most Progressive Agrarian Reform Organization. Dullan Norte Agrarian Reform Cooperative of Oroquieta City is elevated to the Hall of Fame as the Most Progressive Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB) Organization having been awarded at the national level and have consistently maintained the highest rating among the more than 300 organizations in the region for the past several years.
