By Macky Macavinta

General Santos City (June 22) -- A blood donation center was set up by the Sarangani Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council at the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) compound in General Santos City for the victims of the June 20 twin grenade attacks in poblacion Maasim that killed one civilian and wounded 32.

Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez was the first donor.

"We heard the news of the incident on the radio and the need for blood donors," said Abdul Moin from Ibuyan, a blood donor who brought along his cousins Salik Kasan and Munhad Jakar from barangay Fatima, General Santos City.

Student Eugene Eric Denopol from Maasim was in General Santos when he heard the news and voluntarily went to the PNRC complex.

Members of the Holy Trinity Reserve Officers' Training Course and Community Defense Center from Asinan, Buayan led by 2nd Lt. Mark Sadio also volunteered to donate blood.

As of Sunday morning (June 21), a total of 32 victims were confined at General Santos City Doctors' Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Mindanao Medical Center and General Santos City District Hospital. Two of the victims have been discharged while one was confirmed dead on arrival.

Governor Dominguez who was among the first to visit the victims at the hospitals said the province will shoulder hospital bills of the victims and provide food and transportation for volunteer watchers. (Sarangani Info. Office) [top]
