Disaster coordinating body tackles current disaster threats in Region 8
Tacloban City (June 23) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council of Eastern Visayas Full Council is scheduled to meet from 9:00 o'clock in the morning to 12:00 o'clock noon on June 23 at the Ritz Tower de Leyte in Tacloban City.
Police Chief Superintendent Mario R. San Diego of PNP Region 8, who is the chairman of the RDCC8 informed that among the issues which will be tackled during the meeting is the Weather Update by PAGASA.
Another issue to be tackled is that of A (H1N1), the updates of which will be presented by the Department of Health Region 8 Director. The Department of Health will also present the Regional Contingency Plan on A(H1N1).
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture Region 8 will also present the Avian Influenza Contingency Plan.
The Office of Civil Defense is set to give an update on the National Disaster Consciousness Month celebration which is commemorated annually in the month of July.
Finally, the council is scheduled to tackle the creation of working committees for the National Disaster Consciousness Month celebration in Eastern Visayas.
As the coordinator of all disaster management in Region 8, it is through the RDCC member-agencies that disaster preparedness, prevention, mitigation and response carry out its corresponding tasks and responsibilities.
In the discharge of its function, the RDCC 8 utilizes the facilities and services of the Office of Civil Defense, as its operating arm. The RDCC Operations Center has been set up at the OCD 8 to take reports and respond to disaster alerts from the various provincial and municipal disaster coordinating councils in the Region.
Last year, in line with the OCD Memorandum dated February 5, 2007 regarding the streamlining of the composition of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council, PNP 8 Director Abner Cabalquinto who was then the Chairman of RDCC8, announced the composition of the RDCC Executive Committee. (PIA 8) [top]
