Region 8 hosts 9th convention of resident Ombudsmen, reg'l executives
Tacloban City (June 23) -- This year's Visayas-wide gathering of Resident Ombudsmen and Regional Executives is set to be held at the Sabin Resort Hotel in Ormoc City, Leyte on June 22 to 24.
Organized by the Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayas, the convention honors the commendable commitment of the Office of the Ombudsman and its partner agencies in the war against corruption.
Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas, Hon. Pelagio S. Apostol said the annual event seeks to renew the declaration of the common vision to free the country from the bondage of poverty and greed of the spirit through convergence of anti-corruption initiatives and efforts.
The three-day Convention includes topics for discussion relevant to the jobs as public servants with integrity and honor, among which are OMB Rules and Procedures; Money Laundering; and National Guidelines on Internal Control System.
A special session exclusively for the Regional Executives is arranged so that issues and concerns of the heads of institutions and local government units will be given extra attention.
The Convention will provide the participants from Region 6, Region 7 and Region 8, the opportunity to learn from among themselves, especially on their valuable experience in public service and the best practices of the agencies and institutions, which will be made the bases or springboard to a more efficient, effective and conscientious exercise of public duties.
The Honorable Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Navarro-Gutierrez will deliver the keynote address during the Fellowship Program. Other highlights of the Fellowship Night are the Search for Mr. & Ms. Fellowship 2009 with Filipiniana Wear, Beach Wear and Sports Wear portion; the awarding of outstanding resident ombudsman and most supportive regional executive; ballroom contest and sing along with PNP Band.
On the third day of the Convention, a community outreach program is scheduled in the depressed island barangay of Apid, Inopacan, Leyte reachable only through a 45-minute boat-ride from Ormoc City. (PIA 8) [top]
