Kabacan turns 62 years

Koronadal City (23 June) -- The municipality of Kabacan will be celebrating its 62nd Foundation Anniversary on August 18, 2009.
In an interview, Kabacan Vice Mayor Policronio Dulay said that the Local Government Unit had allocated P700,000 for the funding for the upcoming activities of the town such as: Agro-Trade fair, Search for Mutya ng Kabacan 2009, Alay Lakad, Kasalan ng Bayan, Search for Eco-solid Waste Management involving the puroks and barangays of Kabacan, Sports Fest; inter-barangay open basketball tournament, Search for Miss Gay 2009 and the culmination program through parades in the major streets in the town.
Kabacan is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cotabato.
According to the millennium census, it has a population of 61,998 people in 12,663 households. The town is predominantly composed of rice farms made possible by the influx of Ilocano speaking people from northern Philippines.
A state university also exist in the town - The University of Southern Mindanao. It is strategically located between the cities of Cotabato and Davao from west to east and the cities of Cagayan de Oro from the north and General Santos from the south.
