Calbayog diocese to launch Task Force 2010

Catbalogan (June 24) -- Concerned by the slow turn out of new voter registrants, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) through the diocese of Calbayog will be launching Task Force 2010.
The first activity is a meeting of stakeholders to take place on June 25, 2009 at the St Mary's College Catbalogan.
In a letter penned by Fr. Cesar Aculan of the Calbayog Diocese Social Action Center, he said that out of the estimated 9 million new registrants, only some 500 thousand as of May 2009 have been registered according to COMELEC.
He added that this is a cause for alarm as the youth who are the idealists in the society seem to manifest a sense of lethargy and indifference to political exercise.
The Task Force is aimed at encouraging the participation of first time voters to register and join the political exercise in 2010.
The organizers of Task Force 2010 believe that the youth will confidently choose people with competence, integrity and character.
The letter further read that credible elections happen only when the true voice of the people and their genuine participation prevails. (PIA-Samar) [top]
