DTI to hold Technology and Marketing Forum on Moringa

by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (24 June) -- Vital information on the entrepreneurship potentials of producing Moringa Oleifera, commonly called "malunggay," will be discussed in a forum slated on June 25, 2009, one o'clock in the afternoon at the Salvatori Hall, 6th floor, Maria Cristina Hotel, Iligan City.

Ruel B. Paclipan, Provincial Director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Iligan City / Lanao del Norte Provincial Office, said that they encourage prominent enterprising individuals to attend this forum.

"We tapped entrepreneurs to provide inputs on Moringa as a source of livelihood and employment for individuals, as the government aims to have this as an important business opportunity for those interested in the moringa production business," added Paclipan.

Moringa Oleifera or "malunggay" grows all over the country and for so many generations the Filipinos have been depending on it as a source of micronutrients and natural vitamins. Its tiny leaves have seven times the Vitamin C of oranges; 4 times the Vitamin A of carrots; 4 times the Calcium of milk; 3 times the Potassium of bananas; and 2 times the Protein of yogurt.

Resource person of this forum will be Danilo P. Manayaga, president and chief executive officer of Secura International Corporation.

Secura International Corporation, the leading biotech company in the country, has a facility in Barangay Tagpako in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, processing moringa leaves into dehydrated moringa leaf powder for the food and pharmaceutical markets.

A registration fee of One Hundred Pesos Only (P100.00) per participant will be collected to defray costs of handouts and snack.

Interested individuals or agency may confirm their attendance by contacting Engr. Jaime Pa-alisbo, chief of Business Development Division, DTI-Iligan / Lanao del Norte, at telephone numbers 221-5532/221-6151. (PIA Lanao del Norte) [top]
