Earthquake drill goes to Lyceum of Aparri
Tuguegarao City (25 June) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) has chosen Lyceum of Aparri in Aparri, Cagayan for the simultaneous earthquake drill to be done in line with the observation of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July.
Dir. Melchito Castro, OCD-Regional Director, said the earthquake drill is pursuant to the pronouncement and instruction of President Arroyo to conduct simultaneous earthquake drill to expand peoples reaction during and after an earthquake become second nature to prevent casualties.
Castro said the nationwide earthquake drill will also enjoin the participation of government and private offices and establishments to instill awareness on the proper movements and actions during earthquake scenarios.
He said Lyceum of Aparri is chosen for the ceremonial drill because, from the previous years, these have been conducted in different schools in this city.
"This will be done on July 17, 2009 and simultaneously conducted with other regions at 9 o'clock in the morning," Castro added.
The earthquake drill to be conducted is in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PhilVolcs) and members of RDCC. (Ver/PIA-Cagayan) [top]
