Tour de Antique to highlight provinceís tourism month celebration
San Jose, Antique (25 June) -- Tour de Antique, a three-day open mountain bike race, will highlight this yearís World Tourism Month Celebration on September, here. This activity is spearheaded by the Antique Provincial Tourism Office (APTO) and the Antique Tourism Officers Association.
Also called Sikad Lagaw sa Antique, the race will cover a total distance of 310 kilometers. The competition will be on September 26-29 with the first leg starting in the municipality of Libertad going to Valderrama. The second leg will be from Valderrama to San Jose de Buenavista and the last will be from San Jose de Buenavista and back, with the route passing the town of Hamtic to Brgy. Tiolas, San Joaquin, Iloilo down to the coastal road of the towns of Anini-y and Tobias Fornier. Winners will win cash prizes.
Sikad Lagaw sa Antique is now on its second year, last yearís event was not a contest, however, but was joined by almost 70 bikers, itís main purpose was to contribute to the advocacy in mitigating the effects of and awareness building on the negative effects of climate change. On the other hand, this yearís event aims to establish the province as a tourist destination with strong awareness and advocacy for responsible tourism.
Applicants for the said event should register before September 15 for a fee of one thousand pesos at the Antique Provincial Tourism Office.
Aside from the Sikad Lagaw, there are two other activities slated for the Tourism Month celebration, the Test cum Familiarization Tour of Caluya Island and the showcase of destinations, products, facilities and services.
