ERC-KAELCO to conduct consultation on power rate increase
Tabuk, Kalinga (26 June) -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has to submit in a public consultation the increase of power rates ask by all electric cooperatives nationwide to ensure that the side of consumers be heard and their inputs possibly considered.
With this policy, management of the Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (KAELCO) scheduled a public consultation on July 15 at the Peoples' Gymnasium here to present a methodology and guidelines adopted by ERC governing power rates.
According to Marites Dumagas, Manager of the Institutional Service Division of Kaelco, ERC and Kaelco decided to conduct public consultation on "rules for setting the electric cooperative wheeling rates" (RSEC-WR) that can apply to all cooperatives.
"The RSEC-WR may differ since electric cooperatives are clustered into small, medium and big where KAELCO falls under small and classified as "A", Dumagas said adding that options on the simplest method to adopt will be offered by ERC during the forum.
She said Kaelco applied for power rate increase but ERC has not acted yet on the proposal and here, they will come with options to offer. "Definitely there will be power rate increases since the current rate is not the "true cost" of power rate," Dumagas stressed. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
