Banaue, Ifugao (26 June) -- In order to bring quality education services to the young, the Department of Education here divided this district into two on June 23, 2009.
The event was witnessed by officials here led by Congressman Solomon Chungalao and Vice Governor Nora Dinamling, who also supported the division for the improvement of education in the area.
The division of Banaue district was authored by Board Member Clemente Bongtiwon, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Education.
DepEd Division Superintendent Estela Carino said that she supports the resolution of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan that having two districts would mean better supervision. Pupils studying in small schools located in far barangays will also have more chances of exposure to contests and DepEd activities, she said.
"Its one of the factors that support our slogan "No Ifugao child left behind," Carino said.
The DepEd hopes to improve the performance of the students and pupils here since they will be nearer to the new district office established at Barangay Kianakin. The other district office is located in the Poblacion here.
Education Supervisor Gloria Ambojnon said that this set up will make the monitoring of schools easier for the DepEd officials and the school heads themselves. Banaue has 23 elementary and three high schools which including one private high school.
Most of the schools here experience the difficulty of pupils and students in going to school due to the terrain and houses are located far from the schools. Ambojon believes that the division of the Banaue District will solve some if not most of the problems encountered by teachers and the pupils.
Banaue is the second district here to have two district offices. Alfonso Lista was the first to be subdivided into two. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
