Bangued, Abra (27 June) -- Projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan (KALAHI) funding of the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) in four municipalities in the province are already finished and officially handed over to the respective project beneficiaries.
Barangay government units and local chief executives of Danglas, Lacub, San Isidro and San Quintin accepted the projects in behalf of their constituents last June 24 to 25. 2009 from DSWD-CAR led by Director Porfiria Bernardez.
The KALAHI projects are just one of the steps taken by PGMA to meet recession should the global crisis hit the country as predicted by international organizations.
The KALAHI projects which come in the form of improvement of social infrastructures like provision of water system like spring development and artesian wells, construction and rehabilitation of schools buildings and day care centers provided emergency employment to the local people.
In San Quintin, Mayor Amador Diaz expressed appreciation and gratitude to the project officers for including his town because the amount of P5.4 M that was provided by the KALAHI funds was a real great help to the LGU and the barangays which have very limited local funds. Without the fund augmentation from KALAHI, the 14 projects implemented in the different barangays would not have been realized.
Implementation of the KALAHI projects in San Quintin started in October 2006. The LGU was given P1.8 M fund support for their projects per cycle and put up their counterpart of 30%. The barangay government units likewise provided their own counterparts such as labor.
With the fund support from KALAHI, all the barangays were given water systems and their school buildings and daycare centers were rehabilitated. In addition, Brgy. Pantoc was able to have their road shoulders riprapped. (PIA-Abra) [top]
