Bibak-ne and I-Golfers sponsor 1st Fil-Am Friendship Invitational Cup on July 18

By Elly Tamayao

New York, USA (27 June) -- Filipino-American golf enthusiasts are expected to show up en masse at tee off starting at 9:30 AM on July 18, Saturday, at the Knoll East Golf Course, Parsipanny, New Jersey, to play a round of golf and at the same time try their luck to win a $20,000 worth Smart Car hole-in-one prize.

Dubbed as FIL-AM Friendship Invitational Cup, this big fundraising golf event will be hosted jointly by BIBAK-NE (New Jersey /New York/ Pennsylvania) Association and the I-golfers Club.

I-golfers' Club President Dr. Pio Paunon announced the tournament is open to all avid golfers to join and battle it out for some huge prizes. "I am encouraging all interested amateur golf players to come out and play and take a chance to win special hole-in-one prizes", he said.

Aside from the Smart Car, other prize packages at stake for players scoring hole-in-one on any other par-three holes include a callaway iron set, sharp LCD-TV, domestic round trip tickets for two or a cash equivalent of $500. These prizes, according to Paunon, will surely entice more players to join the forthcoming tourney.

To speed up the playing pace, this 18-hole golf event will use the Modified Molave Points System of play where 6 points is awarded for an ace, 5 for eagle, 4 for birdie, 3 for par, 2 for bogey and 1 for double bogey.

Awarding of big prizes and trophies to winners will take place on the same day immediately after the game at Knoll Park where a sumptuous lunch/dinner will also be served. Trophies will be awarded to the over-all champion, class A - D champions and runner ups, 2 longest drive and 2 nearest to the pin.

Organizers of said tournament mounted an aggressive campaign since last month targeting participants including golf associations like the Filipino-American Golf Association (FAGA) golfers and many more. Invitations floated around showed there will be no limit of participation, thus a great chance for I-golfers to rub shoulders with other outside players.

"We are hopeful FAGA will match the number of the I-golfer players who joined them in full force during their golf outing last May 17 at Links at Shirley Golf Course", said tournament committee chair PMA Col. Rey Luboa (ret.). Expected teams to join also are the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) alumni, PAGASI, guests from Montefiore Hospital and other Filipino golf organizations.

Registration fee per player is pegged at $120 to cover green/cart fees, lunch, trophies and dinner at the park.

Proceeds of this tournament will help fund a BIBAK-NE Association's Surgical/Dental Mission at Benguet Province, Philippines in 2010. "Whatever participation you chip in to this event - - to sponsor a golf hole; to play for this cause; invite other participants or solicit for hole sponsorship; to volunteer as Hole-In-One watchers on this tournament as well as assist during the awards and dinner at the park is a big contribution towards helping our fellow Cordillerans who are our beneficiaries for this endeavor", BIBAK-NE President Dr. Brian Gulian, stressed as he rallies the organization's membership for their support.
