RDCC 8 prepares for National Disaster Consciousness Month in July

Tacloban City (June 27) -- Police Chief Superintendent Mario R. San Diego who is the chairman of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council in Eastern Visayas, informed the members of the proposed activities for the month of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month.

In keeping with this year's theme, "Pag Alerto, Malayo sa Peligro," RDCC 8 has lined up activities such as the kick off ceremony which include a Mass, motorcade and a short opening program on July 1, hosted by the Leyte Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.

The assembly time is 7:00 o'clock in the morning at the Leyte Provincial Capitol, Director San Diego said.

Another activity is the conduct of an Earthquake Drill on July 17 where local government units, local disaster coordinating councils, government agencies, private and public schools are enjoined to participate.

The drill aims to prepare the public on what to do in case of earthquakes and possible scenarios during the incident.

Information and Education advocacies and campaigns will also be conducted with the help of the tri-media. This will be done through press releases, radio and television interview, and press conferences.

Other activities which have been identified are water search and rescue (WASAR) capability demonstration, basic life support training for RDCC members, symposium on disaster preparedness, information drive on disaster preparedness and coastal clean-up drive.

This year's theme, "Pag-alerto, Malayo sa Peligro" is geared towards attaining zero casualty objective, in times of disaster. (PIA 8) [top]
