MPPM holds forum in North Cotabato

by Rhodz Beņez

Koronadal City (29 June) -- The Mindanao Peoples' Peace Movement (MPPM) has conducted a lecture forum on "International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights and the Rights and the Right to Self-Determination" on June 25, 2009 at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, Cotabato.

This lecture-forum series which has been held in Cotabato City, Midsayap, Kabacan, Lantapan, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities from June 24 to 26, 2009 is jointly sponsored by the Southern Christian College (SCC), the Center for International Law and the Mindanao Peoples' Peace Movement (MPPM) in celebration of its ninth year.

According to Bangsamoro Secretariat Brother Abdulgani Yusop the half day forum tackled the very important subjects that had helped deepen "our knowledge, thus helping us in our work especially in Central Mindanao where shooting war is still going on."

The focus on the right to self-determination is important as the conflict that has been raging in Mindanao is essentially a struggle for the right to self-determination especially of the Bangsamoro people.

The program started with the opening ceremonies with addresses from the local officials and from MPPM and followed by the lecture on International Humanitarian Law and the Rights to Self-Determination.(PIA 12) [top]
