1ST Family Planning Service Center in Compostela Valley launched

Davao City (30 June) -- Compostela Valley's 1st Family Planning Service centers came into fruition following a training on the Modern Natural Family Planning last year. The launching on June 17 is a dream come true not only for the provincial and local government in Pantukan but also for a couple pastor from the King of Kings Ministries, Pastor Ner and Pastora Lenen Papas.

The Family Planning Service Center was opened to the public that day and will sustain the mission to serve the people not only in Pantukan but most especially those couples who have unmet need for family planning, who wanted to limit the size of their family and who wanted to space childbirth.

The couple pastors has signified their commitment to serve and manage the facility which is located at their residence in Barangay Kingking, Pantukan. The couple's role involved facilitating Responsible Parenting Movement class and focus on sharing the technology of the Modern Family Planning Methods; Ovulation or Billings Method, Basal Body Temperature (BBT), Symto-Thermal Methods (STM), and Lactational Amenorrhea (LAM).

According to Emma C. Resurreccion, head of the Population Management Division under PHO, other services offered at the center are counseling on childbirth spacing through Natural Family Planning, achieving children through fertility management/ awareness, value based marital bonding. She added that the center will be under the supervision of both the Municipal & Provincial Health Office of the province. CHD XI and POPCOM XI also committed to support the logistic and technical requirements.

Gov. Arturo Uy whose strong support to the reproductive health program earlier announced that the couple, under the proper guidance of health workers, had the right to choose what is best for them, "couple's choice--whether artificial or natural family planning method," he said.

The launch was graced by the Regional NFP Coordinator Dr. Raquel Montejo and POPCOM XI Director Maduh A. Damsani. They are joined by local officials headed by Vice Mayor Hyron Ranain, Mr. Dads Johnson, SB on Health, Hon. Luzviminda Flores, the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Nelson Morales, PHN Carol Cale, Dr. Olivia Rubillos, BHWs and representative from the Council of Women, Municipal Nutrition Council and religious groups.
