CAPELCO opens 5th substation

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (30 June) -- The Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc (CAPELCO) has opened its 5th substation in the province at Mambusao town last June 29 to address the low voltage problem in the area and adjacent Jamindan and Sapi-an municipalities.

The 5 Mega Volts Ampere (MVA) substation and area office in Mambusao is part of the cooperative's quality supply improvement and power reliability project to better serve its member-consumers.

It is in line with President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo's Ten-Point Agenda which mandated the electric cooperatives to provide reliable and quality electric service to the community.

"The new substation is expected to lower system loss in the area, minimize scheduled power interruptions, sharpen reliability of distribution lines, ease troubleshooting of line faults, minimize fluctuations, and increase member-consumer satisfaction," said CAPELCO General Manager Engr. Edgar Diaz in his presentation in a brief program during the blessing rites.

The three town recipients of the Mambusao substation used to be supplied with power by the 10 MVA substation in Dao, Capiz which has been serving nine municipalities in the province's second congressional district.

During his presentation, Diaz recognized the support of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the cooperative's Board of Directors (BOD) which paved the way for the approval and realization of the proposed project.

"We can't implement the project unless approved by the ERC," he stressed.

The CAPELCO top official also thanked the Office of Cong. Fredenil Castro, Jamindan Mayor Ethel Jinon, Mambusao Mayor Jose Alba, Sapian Mayor Arturo Orosco, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (formerly Transco), and private lot owners along the line of the 7-kilometer 69,000-volt transmission line from Sapi-an to Mambusao who allowed electric posts raised in their respective properties, among others.

The cooperative's other substations are located at Lawaan, Roxas City, Panit-an and President Roxas towns. (PIA) [top]
