Bangus fry now available in BFAR-10 hatchery
Cagayan de Oro City (30 June) -- The newly launched multi-species hatchery of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-10 located in Manuyog, Sagay, Camiguin now sells milkfish or bangus fry to the public at promotional price of 25 cents.
The hatchery will boost the milkfish fingerlings production in Northern Mindanao that is estimated to produce 9.72 million bangus fry annually.
Initially, the hatchery focuses on the production of bangus and eventually on high valued fish species.
According to Adelfa Delina, Project Leader of the multi-species hatchery, that the project will answer the demand of fry and fingerlings for grow-out culture in ponds and in fish cages.
BFAR-10 OIC Regional Director David F. Ernacio stressed that the hatchery will pump prime the industry by developing sustainable milkfish production in Northern Mindanao.
At present, BFAR-10's Benoni Experimental Station in Taguines Lagoon, Mahinog, Camiguin maintains 60 pieces of the 9-year old caged bangus broodstock with an average body weight of 7.5 kgs each as source of bangus fry.
