Lanao Norte celebrates golden anniversary

Iligan City (30 June) -- Elated with grandeur activities, Governor Khalid Quibranza-Dimaporo is inviting everyone to witness for themselves how Lanao del Norte gives tribute to its birth, celebrating its 50th on 4th July 2009.
Republic Act 2228, issued on July 19, 1959, divided Lanao into two provinces, giving birth to the Province of Lanao del Norte (LDN).
Bearing this year's theme, "Lanao del Norte 50 Anyos Na, Panaghiusa, Kalinaw ug Kalambuan Ipadayun Ta", Gov. Dimaporo said that from the theme itself, the provincial government involved the multi-sector groups in the formulation of diversified programs / activities from June 24 up to July 4, 2009.
The opening of a Trade Fair—OTOP Day or the 'One Town-One Product' program is on June 24 at the Agora Grounds, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, showcasing the different products of the province.
OTOP is a project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Iligan City / Lanao del Norte Provincial Office, in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Provincial Resource Management Center.
Environmental Day is on June 28 would be the presentation of candidates for the Miss Lanao del Norte 2009 Search, with their Hawaiian attire, at Barangay Sugod, town of Sultan Naga Dimaporo (SND).
A Fluvial Parade earlier in the morning will be witnessed by spectators starting from Poblacion port to Sugod, SND.
Meanwhile, there will be Sports Day with two big events.
First, the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) Tournament, where 16 top tennis players will be coming in the province to compete with the bests of Lanao del Norte and Northern Mindanao, on June 29.
Secondly, the motor cross event where national motor cross riders are invited to compete at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) grounds located at Sagadan, Tubod, LDN.
Tourism Day will be on July 02, where the best of Lanao del Norte's culture and arts will be showcased.
There will be parade of Festivals to be participated in by the different municipalities, and the Sagayan showdown, depicting a Maranao ethnic dance.
"The selection of Ms Lanao del Norte 2009 slated in the evening will surely capture huge crowd. The proclaimed title holder will be Lanao del Norte's Ambassador of Goodwill," said Gov. Dimaporo.
The People's Day Caravan celebration on July 3 is partnered with different line agencies in the government from the regional offices and the non-government organizations, as well.
"We opted to have Jobs Fair, giving opportunity to job seekers," the young governor revealed.
He added that services like passport processing, getting clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and other services on medical, dental and legal, are offered to individuals, all for free, at the MCC stadium.
In the evening, the celebration will be highlighted with a concert to be performed by the top rating song artists 'Bamboo', at MCC stadium.
And the night's show will be culminated with a grand fireworks display.
Governor Dimaporo said he had asked the fireworks company to give Lanao del Norte something that has never been seen in Mindanao, and never been seen in Cebu.
"So, it's worthwhile to come and visit us for at least the fireworks display which can be seen free, and it's a very good family event to attend," expressed Dimaporo.
Lastly, there will be a grand parade among the local government units and the government line agencies, non-government organizations and other groups, which will converge at the MCC stadium for the final program, during the 'Araw ng Lanao del Norte. (PIA) [top]
