500 Negros Occidental elementary pupils to benefit from feeding program

Bacolod City (30 June) -- Thirteen public elementary schools in Negros Occidental will be the identified beneficiaries of the Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) in school feeding program of the Jollibee Foundation, which will be launched at Bacolod City.

The BLT program is a 136-day free in-school feeding for elementary pupils from Grades I and II, who are below the normal standard weight for their age.

There will be more than 500 elementary pupils who will avail of free nutritious lunches starting July. The program identified 13 public schools from the cities og Bago, Bacolod, Talisay and from Murcia town.

The BLT programs in Bacolod City, which is being done in partnership with University of St. La Salle and the Institute for Negros Development, hopes to draw awareness on the issue and social responsibility among the people involved, the parents, Department of Education, local government units and the community.

In several areas in the country, the Jollibee Foundation, in coordination with the DepEd and educational institutions, have been conducting the BLT project in hopes of reversing the trend of elementary pupils dropping out of school or having poor academic performance because of lack of food or malnutrition.
