Manila (30 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo must put the country actively involved in international activities amidst the global economic crisis.
This was conveyed by Press Secretary Cerge Remonde as he asked the Filipinos, particularly the government critics, to understand the need for the President to "actively engage globally" as a way to confront the challenges in times of economic uncertainties.
Remonde stressed that, like other world leaders, the President continuously attends meetings abroad "precisely because the world has become a global village."
He also pointed out that "by not doing so, it will result in isolation and eventually, would not give benefits to the country.
The President's foreign trips had generated more benefits to the country and to the Filipino people.
The official travel has brought in infrastructure projects, livelihood opportunities, investments, and tourist arrivals in the country, among others.
For her part, Presidential Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo said during a press briefing in Malacañang that "what is important is that whatever we spend, definitely is offset by the gains we bring home. (PIA) [top]
