Army conducts community forum in Talaingod

Camp Morgia, Doņa Andrea, Asuncion, Davao Del Norte (1 October) -- The 60th Infantry Battalion (60IB) headed by its Battalion Commander, Lt Col Adriano S Perez Jr, held its grand pulong-pulong at Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte last September 28, 2009.

The grand pulong-pulong or general assembly was held in order to establish good rapport and communication within the residents in the area. The said activity was dubbed as "Magbuligay ki to pog pakusog to Kalinaw wo'y Kalambuan para to kaugmaon to kanta no tribo" (Lumad Empowerment for Peace and Development).

The assembly was peacefully done with the cooperation of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Talaingod headed by Hon Pilar Libayao represented by Mr Salvador Nipa, municipal administrator, Dr James Ian Dela Cruz, Municipal Health Officer, representative from Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agriculture (DA), Mr Emmanuel Cacal, representative from National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) and Barangay Captain Pablo D Tagnipiz of Palma Gil, Talaingod, DDN. Some of the tribal chieftains in the area were present like Datu Samson, Datu Andigao Agay and Datu Baņao.

The peace and order situation was primarily discussed especially on the presence of the local terrorist group (LTG) or NPA in the area. Likewise, the developmental projects of the government were highlighted which will soon be implemented.

While a consultation was made on the health and sanitation concerns, Dr Dela Cruz spent time to do medical check-up and giving of medicines together with his Barangay Health Workers (BHW's).

Presence of media personalities likes John Paul Seniel of GMA and Rodirey Salas of ABS-CBN contributed a lot because it was aired in the local TV news right after the activity.

Prior to the inspirational message of Colonel Eduardo D Del Rosario, Commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade and at the same time the guest speaker during the said activity, the LTG fired at afar to create fear among the lumads but it did not take long since 60IB troops immediately conducted pursuit operations.

In speech, Col del Rosario said, "Soldiers are not the permanent residents in your area but you as the lumads; Henceforth, you must join efforts with us and with the LGUs in communicating and disseminating information with regards to the presence of the enemy activities for the future of your children and to achieve lasting peace so that development will follow."
