NVizcaya village officials hold orientation on minerals development

Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya (October 1) -- The Association of Barangay Captains in this town yesterday conducted a one-day orientation-seminar on the role of the local government units on the implementation of various large scale mining projects.

The activity which was held at barangay Belance here after the issuance of the local government unit here of the Executive Order No. 745 creating the Minerals Development Council(MDC) and defining its powers and functions.

The EO also encourages the participation of local government units through the League of Municipalities of the Philippines(LMP), League of Provinces of the Philippines(LPP), League of Cities of the Philippines(LCP) and the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas(LBP).

Tino Sanchez, ABC president said the creation of the MDC in this town is a necessary move inorder to ensure the safe, secure and pro-environment implementation of huge mining projects.

"Most of our upland villages are being threatened by large scale mining applications and explorations by companies. With this organization, we will be given the proper knowledge and responsibility on how to monitor and maintain our vigilance for these mining projects," Sanchez said.

The activity was attended by local officials, government agency representatives, non-government organizations, mediamen and affected residents. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
