OCD 6 to host Statistics Month opening in Western Visayas
Iloilo City (1 October) -- The celebration of the 20th National Statistics Month (NSM) this October in Western Visayas is set to take off today, October 2, 2009 with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 6 as host of the opening ceremonies.
OCD was designated as the Department of National Defense (DND) focal agency with regard to the sub-national celebration due to its regional coverage and jurisdiction.
The DND has been chosen as the host agency during this year’s Opening Ceremony of the 20th NSM celebration which focuses on security sector with the theme “Enhancing Security Sector Statistics for Good Governance, Peace and Sustainable Development”.
The celebration in the region will kick-off with a Hataw at the Iloilo Provincial Grounds starting at 7:00 in the morning participated in by the representatives of the different government agencies, city and province of Iloilo, academe and the statistical organizations.
This will be followed by a motorcade in the major streets of Iloilo City and the opening ceremonies at Camp Martin Delgado, Fort San Pedro.
Major General Vicente M Porto, Commanding General 3rd Infantry Division Philippine Army in Western Visayas will be the keynote speaker during the opening program.
Other activities slated for the month are Statistical Exhibits on October 12 to 23 at the Amigo Plaza Mall; Statistical Analysis Contest for tertiary students on October 21; Statistical Quiz Contest on October 23; Philippine Statistics Quiz on October 27; Statistical Congress on October 28 to 30; Statistical Bulletin Board Contest.
The NSM celebration in the region will be capped with the awarding and closing ceremony on October 30 hosted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the agency responsible for producing monetary and banking statistics. (PIA) [top]
