PPA eyes strengthening of Volunteer Probation Aides
Iloilo City (1 October) -- The Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) 6 is undertaking the revitalization and strengthening of the Volunteer Probation Aide (VPA) Program for stronger community involvement in crime prevention.
PPA 6 Director Emitre Amoroso said the VPA program is mandated by Executive Order No. 468, dated October 11, 2005, which requires the office and its partner agencies to support the thrust.
Amoroso said to date, there are 907 VPAs organized into 28 VPA associations all throughout the region.
Amoroso also said that these volunteers render free services in the treatment and rehabilitation of offenders, especially probationers, parolees, or pardonees as well as in the administration of criminal justice.
The PPA chief further said that they intend to enhance the VPAs' role in generating active support from the community for the ultimate goal of a more sustainable peace and order situation.
In the scheduled briefing on VPA program on October 6, Amoroso said they hope to reach a mutually beneficial inter-agency partnership that can be highlighted through a Memorandum of Agreement during the 1st Regional Congress on the VPA on October 29 in Iloilo City. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
