Negros Occidental sends help to "Ondoy" victims
Negros Occidental (2 October) -- The Municipality of Hinigaran was the first local government unit (LGU) in Negros Occidental to respond to the call of Acting Gov. Emilio L. Yulo, III to extend relief donations to Typhoon Ondoy victims in Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon.
Yulo personally received the donations brought by Joebol Williams of the Hinigaran Mayor's Office, Hinigaran Social Welfare and Development Officer Margarito "Lunes" Abancio, and Rosendo Banquillo, Jr. of the Hinigaran Rural Health Unit.
Negrenses have also answered the call of the Provincial Government as more relief donations continue to pour in from Capitol employees, private individuals, people's organization, and local government units.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Liane Garcia has collected five sacks, five boxes, and 14 plastic bags of assorted used clothing, pillows, mats, and 17 boxes of instant noodles and 10 boxes of sardines, yesterday.
Cash donations were referred by Garcia to ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. Savings Account.
The relief goods will be sent to Manila via the Negros Navigation and Cebu Pacific who offered to deliver the relief goods for free.
The Provincial Government continues to accept relief goods, and boxes are placed at the PSWDO and Security Office of the Provincial Capitol. (Capitol News/PIA/EAD) [top]
